Pakistan Day

From March 22 to March 24, 1940, the All India Muslim League held its annual session at Minto Park, Lahore. This session proved to be historical.

On the first day of the session, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah narrated the events of the last few months. In an extempore speech he presented his own solution of the Muslim problem. He said that the problem of India was not of an inter-communal nature, but manifestly an international one and must be treated as such. To him the differences between Hindus and the Muslims were so great and so sharp that their union under one central government was full of serious risks. They belonged to two separate and distinct nations and therefore the only chance open was to allow them to have separate states.

In the words of Quaid-i-Azam: “Hindus and the Muslims belong to two different religions, philosophies, social customs and literature. They neither inter-marry nor inter-dine and, indeed, they belong to two different civilizations that are based mainly on conflicting ideas and conceptions. Their concepts on life and of life are different. It is quite clear that Hindus and Muslims derive their inspiration from different sources of history. They have different epics, different heroes and different episodes. Very often the hero of one is a foe of the other, and likewise, their victories and defeats overlap. To yoke together two such nations under a single state, one as a numerical minority and the other as a majority, must lead to growing discontent and final destruction of any fabric that may be so built up for the government of such a state”.

He further said, “Mussalmans are a nation according to any definition of nation. We wish our people to develop to the fullest spiritual, cultural, economic, social and political life in a way that we think best and in consonance with our own ideals and according to the genius of our people”.

On the basis of the above mentioned ideas of the Quaid, A. K. Fazl-ul-Haq, the then Chief Minister of Bengal, moved the historical resolution which has since come to be known as Lahore Resolution or Pakistan Resolution.

The Resolution declared: “No constitutional plan would be workable or acceptable to the Muslims unless geographical contiguous units are demarcated into regions which should be so constituted with such territorial readjustments as may be necessary. That the areas in which the Muslims are numerically in majority as in the North-Western and Eastern zones of India should be grouped to constitute independent states in which the constituent units shall be autonomous and sovereign”.

It further reads, “That adequate, effective and mandatory safeguards shall be specifically provided in the constitution for minorities in the units and in the regions for the protection of their religious, cultural, economic, political, administrative and other rights of the minorities, with their consultation. Arrangements thus should be made for the security of Muslims where they were in a minority”.

The Resolution repudiated the concept of United India and recommended the creation of an independent Muslim state consisting of Punjab, N. W. F. P., Sindh and Baluchistan in the northwest, and Bengal and Assam in the northeast. The Resolution was seconded by Maulana Zafar Ali Khan from Punjab, Sardar Aurangzeb from the N. W. F. P., Sir Abdullah Haroon from Sindh, and Qazi Esa from Baluchistan, along with many others.

The Resolution was passed on March 24. It laid down only the principles, with the details left to be worked out at a future date. It was made a part of the All India Muslim League’s constitution in 1941. It was on the basis of this resolution that in 1946 the Muslim League decided to go for one state for the Muslims, instead of two.

Having passed the Pakistan Resolution, the Muslims of India changed their ultimate goal. Instead of seeking alliance with the Hindu community, they set out on a path whose destination was a separate homeland for the Muslims of India.

Digging for the Red Roots

My name is Mahir Abdal-Razzaaq El and I am a Cherokee Blackfoot American Indian who is Muslim. I am known as Eagle Sun Walker. I serve as a Pipe Carrier Warrior for the Northeastern Band of Cherokee Indians in New York City.

There are other Muslims in our group. For the most part, not many people are aware of the Native American contact with Islam that began over one thousand years ago by some of the early Muslim travelers who visited us. Some of these Muslim travelers ended up living among our people.

For most Muslims and non-Muslims of today, this type of information is unknown and has never been mentioned in any of the history books. There are many documents, treaties, legislation and resolutions that were passed between 1600s and 1800s that show that Muslims were in fact here and were very active in the comunities in which they lived. Treaties such as Peace and Friendship that was signed on the Delaware River in the year 1787 bear the signatures of Abdel-Khak and Muhammad Ibn Abdullah. This treaty details our continued right to exist as a community in the areas of commerce, maritime shipping, current form of government at that time which was in accordance with Islam. According to a federal court case from the Continental Congress, we help put the breath of life in to the newly framed constitution. All of the documents are presently in the National Archives as well as the Library of Congress.

In a future article, Inshallah, I will go in to more details about the various tribes, their languages; in which some are influenced by Arabic, Persian, Hebrew words. Almost all of the tribes vocabulary include the word Allah. The traditional dress code for Indian women includes the kimah and long dresses. Attack on Sri Lankan Tean – SoP Not Followed

The PCB and the Interior Ministry had signed Standard Operation Procedure (SoP). Whether it was followed by in the Test matches between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is open to debate.

The salient features of the pact are:

i) Two routes for the visiting team’s travel to and fro from hotel to the stadium shall be made available.

ii) Final route shall be decided by the accompanying SP of the team at the recommendation of the Command and Control Centre at the venue.

iii) Route shall be completely sealed off with blockade of arteries leading to the road.

iv) One hour before the scheduled departure of the team from the hotel all vehicles parked within 200 yards of the road would either be removed or towed.

v) Special Branch police will sweep the 200 yards area leading to the route with sniffer dogs and electronic gadgets.

vi) Special Branch personnel would be deployed well in advance in the dwellings close to the proposed routes to gather Intelligence.

vii) Sharp shooters would be deployed on all high rises on route and around the stadium.

viii) The team convoy would move in a box formation meaning thereby that there would be two pilots (traffic wardens) followed by an Elite Force vehicle, umpires van, team bus, and two Elite Force vehicles to provide cover to the bus on both side and one at the tail. These vehicles would be followed by ambulance and fire engine.

ix) These were the agreed SoPs signed by the Security Advisor to Prime Minister, Rehman Malik and the security consultants.

Some questions that needed to be answered include:

a) Why was Liberty Chowk open to public whereas it used to be cordoned off one hour before the scheduled departure of the teams?

b) Was there an SP attached to the visiting as well as home team?

c) Why were those rickshaws allegedly carrying these terrorists allowed to stay within the reachable distance of the incoming Sri Lankan bus?

d) Was there a command and control centre set up in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) like it was set up during the Asia Cup?

e) If the Main Boulevard was to be the route, was that road secured as agreed with ICC?

f) Were there police constables deployed on the roofs of high rises as agreed, and if so, can someone explain why the terrorists were firing from the roof of the National Hockey Stadium?

Sri Lanka’s Team Attacked

President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan, disregarding constitution of the country, had imposed Governor rule in the largest province of Punjab. His protégé, Salman Taseer, a known characterless man, changed all the top administration and police officers of the province bringing his cronies in to cramp on the most popular political party of the province, Muslim league (Nawaz). While diverting all attention to screw up PML(N), he and his administration lost sight of their duty and the result is:

This morning when Sri Lank’s cricket team was going to play test match at Gadafi Stadium, Lahore, a dozen masked gunmen opened fire on the vehicle carrying members of Sri Lanka’s national cricket team wounding seven players, three police officers and killing eight people including six police officers.
